This one-year program designed to prepare students for entry-level practice as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). This joint program is offered through Âé¶¹¹ú²ú Community and Technical College in partnership with the Woody Williams Center for Advanced Learning (formerly Cabell County Career and Technology Center), combining the academic resources of the college with the hands-on technical training environment of the advanced learning center.

The curriculum integrates classroom instruction, skills laboratory practice, simulation, and supervised clinical experience in a variety of healthcare settings. Students develop knowledge and competencies in nursing fundamentals, adult health, pharmacology, nutrition, mental health, maternal and pediatric nursing, geriatric care, and professional role development. Emphasis is placed on safe patient care, therapeutic communication, ethical and legal responsibilities, cultural competence, leadership skills, and preparation for professional practice. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience caring for individuals across the lifespan while learning to function effectively as members of the healthcare team. The program also emphasizes NCLEX_PN preparation, critical thinking, clinical judgement, and workplace readiness.
Graduates of the program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon successful licensure, graduates may seek employment in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, physician offices, clinics, rehabilitation centers, and community health agencies.
Program Outcomes:
• Assess basic physical, psychological, and cultural needs of the client
• Collect and accurately document data from available resources, including the client, family, healthcare records, healthcare team, established
protocols, and guidelines.
• Use effective communication when reporting and recoding client observations to the appropriate healthcare professional.
• Protect the client’s and family’s right to privacy and dignity according to HIPAA policy and procedure
• Utilize knowledge of assessment values to identify deviations in health status and modify the nursing approach based on evaluation of the client’s
response.
• Assist the client and significant others through the expected stages of growth and development from conception through advanced old age.
• Provide safe and effective care and comfort for the client according to accepted standards of nursing practice.
• Provide care to clients within the practical nurse’s scope of practice while collaborating with healthcare team members to coordinate the delivery
of nursing care.
• Facilitate the client’s ability to cope, adapt, and problem solve situations related to illness or stressful events
• Administer medications and monitor clients receiving parenteral therapies, assessing for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members in developing nursing care plans, utilizing and prioritizing established nursing diagnoses for clients
with common, well-defined health problems
• Instruct clients and families, based on client needs and the nurse’s level of knowledge, regarding health promotion, disease prevention, and early
detection of health problems
• Adhere to the essential components of the Nurse’s Code of Ethics
Program Progression is dependent upon the student successfully completing each of the LPN courses with a grade of 80% or above.
Program Admission Requirements:
1. Students seeking admission into the Practical Nursing program must:Complete the Student Information Packet for the Woody Williams Center for Advanced Learning.
Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý • The student will then be scheduled a TEAS Exam. A passing score of 57 o higher is required to be eligible for enrollment into the program.
2. Complete the Âé¶¹¹ú²ú Community and Technical College application for admission AND the LPN Enrollment Application
3. Pass a physical examination, dental examination, criminal background check, and drug screening to ensure they meet health, safety, and clinical placement requirements.
4. Interview with the LPN Program Coordinator as part of the admission process to assess readiness, commitment, and understanding of program expectations
5. Attend all required orientation sessions prior to the start of the term.
The college adheres to an open admission policy which means applications with a high school diploma or GED are eligible for admission. Applicants with neither a high school diploma nor GED may be admitted on a conditional basis.
